4C Acquisition
The 4C-3D seabed acquisition methodology used by SeaBird Exploration is based on individual nodes firmly planted into the sea bed and deployed as a regular grid on the seabed.
Each of the nodes is fitted with three fixed geophones and one hydrophone:
- 2 geophones for particle velocity measurements in horizontal directions (Vx, Vy)
- 1 geophone for particle velocity measurements in the vertical direction (Vz)
- 1 omnidirectional hydrophone for pressure measurements (P)
Operational Strengths:
- One vessel operation, nodes and source on the same vessel.
- Highly accurate tilt and directivity measurements are performed for each node planting.
- Ultra-deep water capability (3000m).
- Shooting is performed using an omnidirectional airgun source in a dense regular grid.
- Each node positioned accurately by a ROV communicating with a DGPS navigation system.
- Excellent coupling is ensured by careful sensor design and controlled planting with ROV manipulator.
